Monitoring and Evaluation

It is important to establish a mechanism for tracking performance and measuring progress towards meeting goals for any activity the agency embarks upon. The monitoring and evaluation process should be developed for all specific projects. This process details how and why the results did or did not influence policy and program changes. This strategy will test the effectiveness of a particular program/administrative policy and explore the implications of one or more aspects of the program for future development and innovations. Additionally, agencies should implement the monitoring and evaluation plan for periodic review and adjustment of research priorities.

The evaluation of the agency’s research plan should identity the different kinds of research typically funded by the Centers for Disease Control, the National Institutes of Health, the Administration for Children and Families and other foundations, and identify usual timelines for grants to be announced and then funded. This will enable staff to be informed of and have access to relevant research that affects service delivery to children, youth and families and to reduce duplication efforts on particular areas of interest.
