Aligning Technology with the Agency Vision Mission and Values
The agency’s vision, mission and values determine what it wants technology to accomplish and sets the context within which technology will be applied. Though in SACWIS states a lot of technology options are already defined, technology should, ideally, embody a vision of what public child welfare can look like when technological advances are applied.
A sample public child welfare technology mission statement might be:
Technology will support the agency, its providers and its partner agencies in their work to enhance the safety, well-being and permanent connections of children, youth and families served by providing technology solutions and services that are comprehensive, relevant and easy to use. The technology unit shall establish a comprehensive and effective environment that supports the computing, networking and telephony needs of staff and stakeholders. All services will be created in accordance with the values and programmatic priorities of agency, its providers and partner agencies. Services are developed and maintained by a technology staff that is knowledgeable and effective.
